Wow, its a little hard to pick out an outfit over the internet. . .

Go into Crossroads and choose a nice dress. They aren’t overly formal and have some great styles out at the moment. They also have purses.

Go check out ‘cocktail’ dresses at the mall. Most are made for ease of movement. Avoid extra slim lines, unless they have side or back slits. Wrap dresses are great and anything in a knit is perfect. Stick to something with straps or sleeveless. Strapless dresses are begging for trouble. Black is back in style (like it ever went out of style), but dark grays are good alternatives. It is getting cooler so, depending on the weather in your area, think about a dressy jacket – or nice wrap to throw around your shoulders (very popular!). Your choice of shoes is completely up to you – think about the amount of time that you will spend on your feet, the size of the crowd and the amount of alcohol, if any, that will be on hand (drunk people = ouch!). Boots are being pushed (rather aggressively) this year and there are some very attractive styles out there, in various styles that you may consider. Tights are all over the place, in a thousand colors and textures, and can be fun alternatives to pantyhose. Clutch purses seem to be the ‘must have’ accessory, but ‘handle’ handbags are still in style.

  3. I would pick something that I knew I would definitely wear again. Ditto with the purse and shoes. Something cute and kind of funky/stylish, but you absolutely will wear it again. One year, I bought the coolest velvet dress with a tribal print on it. It was short, but not too short, and it was just the coolest thing I had ever seen. I had a gift certificate to use, so I splurged and bought it. I still wear the dress once or twice a year.

    Good luck!
