How many here have grown their hair to the waist? hips? knees? floor? Any kept it?

To grow it to fairy-tale length and keep it when there is so much peer pressure to conform to what makes hairdressers money is a rare gift. I wonder if there is anyone reading this with this gift.

Short hair is everywhere. Like forests, it takes just a moment to cut and a very long time to grow. So once it’s done, it’s gone, and only the very patient or determined ever get it back.

The first stage is irreparable damage to what was once virgin and lovely – it may only be a bit of framing around the face, or layers or bangs or a few highlights, but the quality is gone and can only be brought back with a lot of remedial care.

This is why there are so few women over 30 with long hair. Quite a few would like it, but nearly all settle for the same boring foot-long or shorter length.

But I might be wrong. . . .

  2. Lots of ladies have hair to the waist – it just doesn’t grow from their heads, that’s all.

When i was 12 a had hair down to my bum. :]
I cut it to just below my shoulders cos it gets to knotty and damaged.

I’m in the teen age group, and I have hair down to my waist. Use to be longer, but I didn’t keep it up very well during the growing process, so I got about 4 inches cut off.

Its hard when everyone tells you “you need to get a haircut!” when I don’t really want one. But I figure, Who cares what they think? I like my hair, and I actually get compliments on it all the time.

my hair goes upto my hips, it wont grow any longer =(. . i guess it’s more practical for women to have short hair to fit in with busy daily life styles. Long hair needs a lot more maintenance I think. I’m afraid to cut mine, it took me ages to grow and maintain but sometimes I do wish i had shorter hair mainly due to the time it takes me to make it neat and stuff in the morning.

Mine has been almost to my waist before. It’s about 7 inches above the waist now.

I grew my hair until it touched the back of my knees. Then I started my nurse training. In bygone years nurses had to wear their hair so it did not reach their collar. I had to plait it and wind it around my head. With a nurses cap on top (it was a few years ago) I looked like a Walnut Whip! I had to have it cut and have regretted it ever since.

  8. My hair is a bit jumpy but when it hangs down (wet eg. ) it hangs to my pants, but I am going to have it shortened sometime soon. A few months ago I had it cut untill my shoulders, (hung down a little longer) and I think I will have it that length again. Maybe a few inches longer.

  9. Not to offend anyone but I hate long hair. I had very long hair until I was a teenager only because my mom wouldn’t let me cut it. Now that I am an adult I wear it in a very short pixie cut which I love. I love to get up and go and not deal with my hair. My daughter is trying to grow her hair and it is a pain because it is so thick and always matted. Society has this idea that girls have to have long hair. They don’t. I am a non-conformist. I wear my hair the way I want and not the way society expects me too. When your hair is really long it is bad for your roots because it is a lot of weight hanging on them. I think for a lot of women long hair is their security blanket. I am confident with who I am so I don’t need long hair to feel feminine. I get so many compliments on my short hair.

  10. I grew my hair to my waist. Believe me, cutting it had nothing to do with peer pressure. My hair is unusually thick, and when grown to my waist it was very heavy, and hot in the summer. There are other practical problems apart from the heat and the weight: my hair would often get caught in things like car doors, my belt when I did it up, trapped by other people leaning on it or lying on it when I was in bed with them. Also washing it was a major performance and it took hours to dry.

I am constantly being told that my hair is beautiful, and from the front I did look fantastic with long hair, but from the back I looked like a short brown tent. Not so beautiful.

I now have hair to just below my shoulders. A friend cuts it, not a hairdresser. It has a lot more curl and is a lot bouncier now, and I have not regretted it at all.

I was like Ruth W I cut my waist length hair to neck length because of the thickness, weight and heat in the summer.

  12. its easy to manage short hair. . . . it give u youthful & fresh look but the bottom line here whether its short or long. . . . its a of personal appreciation and on how each one carry of herself.
