They are popular with suits and shirt and jacket and they are also used for uniforms, for example in school.
However, I find them useless. They serve no practical purpose and restrict your breathing.

I like ties personally and I am a girl, I wear them loose with random band Tees and other shirts. I don’t think they are impractical, or restrict your breathing. But I am werid and people think I am trying to be like Avril Lavinge wearing ties, but I am not! She sucks! GOsh!
Whatever though, that’s my opinion!
