How do you dye your hair red when it is bleach blonde?

Please don’t say “go to a professional” because I haven’t got enough money too. How will I make sure it doesn’t turn orange or any other weird colour? Would dying it a dark blonde/light brown then putting the red dye on top work?

Oh dear Im am gonna say it, go to a pro, seriously speaking as an exblonde bleached blonde, so blonde it reflected, stay away from the red. . . . unless its a pro it will turn orange, or it will turn a kool aid red, and then you will be spending the holidays trying to make it look normal. . seriously. . . I did it. . . its was so horrible. . . it took me for every to get it back the same, and even then i had to buy really expensive shampoo and conditioner to get it soft again.

  2. Your hair is trashed, I just hope you know that. If you don’t go to a professional, or use professional products your hair will turn ash and appear to be green. The melanin is completely stripped out of your hair and it will have a hard time holding any color you put in it.

You need to start with a filler and use low volume developer, do not use box dye (the crap you buy at wal mart because it has a high volume and can damage your hair even more) use something with a red tone and then follow up with a brown or dark blonde. . . use 5 or 10 volume developer. The red will fade fast. Use a color care shampoo and conditioner, and try not to shampoo everyday if you can possibly help it.

Hmmm. Im only young myself but through my experiance – dying bright shades over bleached hair have always been fine for me.

For example, about a month ago i bleached my hair and dyed it purple – It turned out ok, but i had to dye it purple again a week later because the colour faded so fast. I put that down to the raw state that my hair was left in because of the bleach. My hair is fine now, still bright purple since ive dyed it again to touch up my roots.

But. . . I can say for you, to dye it a light shade of blonde first. I think this would help to neutralise the colour of your hair at the moment, the bleach. After youve dyed it this blonde colour, keep washing and conditoning it, this will help the colour fade and help lock it onto the hair. Leave it for about 3 days – make sure you wash it once a day.

Id say after that, dye it red. The colour should stick to it better then. That was my mistake, i should have dyed my hair a light colour before i duyed it purple so the colour stuck better.

Choose a permanent dye that’s not too bright or light. You can dye it dark blonde first, but be sure to choose ash blonde. It cancels out the orange color.

  5. I don’t always agree with your posts, but this was dead on, way to go!
