  1. depends who you are making up. . . . I wouldnt base your entire career on it but would certainly aim for it. . .

Think broader – hairdresser, costumes, fashion, stage work, design, art etc. .
why not aim at university degrees or higher courses ? These opporutinites are about networking as much as specific training.

Get the skills and then you can direct your career to the dream job but also have something good to fall back on.

I’ve just left school and now about to do a beauty course which will lead onto being a makeup artist.

The courses you can do are Beauty therapy NVQ level 2 -(or level 1), which is more nails, waxing, tinting of eyebrows etc, thats for 1 year.

And then that will lead you onto Theatrical and Media Make-Up Artist Diploma, this course is if you want to work in a career within TV, Film, Photographic Pop Videos, Cat Walk Shows, Special Effects, Casualty Simulation, Employment as Freelance.
You usually have to buy the makeup and equipment from the college and it can be expensive. Again this course is 1 year, and for the NVQ you need at least a C or higher in english, science and art and the same for the diploma.

My friend did the course, she finished it last year, she just does freelance work, but she earns quite a bit. She does weddings, she charges
    £160 for the brides makeup,
and anyone else, bridesmaids etc are £40 each.
If your having like a hen night, prom etc she charges to do the makeup for 1 person-£75 2 people-£115 3 people-£135 etc etc.

I mean not everyone will ask for the same amount but its just roughly what shes getting, Anyway i hope you find this all helpful (:
