Since you’re 17, a lot of tattoo shops will probably allow it since your parents are willing to sign for consent. I would just ask around, and research different shops in your area to find the safest place, and just talk to them. Just don’t settle for some dump shop.

No, I don’t think you can get one in the uk, they are all 18+. i think this is a condition of Council registration. Most decent tattooists will not tattoo hands, neck or head either. You are severely restricting your employment prospects by tattooing your hand, and whilst that is not important to you now, it will be in the future. You are effectively demonstrating why “proper” tattoo artists will not tattoo under 18′s as you are not capable of rational decision making. waiting another year will not hurt, enable you to save more money for a better quality tattoo, and think more about its placement. In the meantime look at this site.

    see, a really quality tatt.

Good luck, and don’t do anything you’ll regret, cos cover ups cost a lot more than the original ink!!

At age 17, you can expect to live another 70 years. That is a long time for ink to sit in the skin of your hand. Every time you use your hand that tattoo will flash before your and everyone else’s eyes.
I am considerably older than you and have discovered over the years that what I really thought I wanted to do changed after a few years. Tattoos are forever, well, almost. I know that as a 17 year old, you have less understanding of that, but, I have NEVER met anyone that liked the tattoo on their arm or hand (any tattoo for that matter) 10 years down the road. Do you really want an ugly scar for 60 years?

I’d say what my parents said when I wanted one at 17. Wait another year. If you still want it then that’s your decision, but until then you don’t know really what you want. At 17 you’re barely starting to find out who you are.

Sorry, but I honestly wish I would’ve waited another year, I’d have 2 less tattoos.

I am willing to bet it isn’t your age that is a factor (since your parents are willing to consent) but the placement of your tattoo.

I don’t know a single tattoo artist that will tattoo someones hand unless they are already significantly covered. Hands are a very “public” place, they are almost impossible to hide and cover. If you already have a crap load of tattoos they are usually okay with it but if you don’t they usually won’t do it.

If you find someone who is willing to do it you should probably run far away from that person. I cannot imagine anyone willing to tattoo a minor on the hand would be anything other than shady.

A lot of artists won’t tattoo your hands especially if it is your first tattoo. It’s a morals thing. . .

What are we supposed to do – guess where you live?? I’m sure that many people can recommend a tattooist who’s willing to risk tattooing a minor, but since you’re too dumb to say where you’re from and you think that having a hand tattoo at 17 is a good thing to do I don’t think you’ll get any help on this site.

I hope you’re good on the guitar because unless you can make a living as a rock star, the only job you’ll be able to get with your hands covered in tattoos is flipping burgers.
